L'Escala is a captivating fishing village, located in the Gulf of Roses, just between Empuriabrava and L'Estartit. Its privileged situation and its environment have made that it has become one of the most visited tourist sites, with a landscape marked by hills and pine trees, hidden coves and long sandy beaches. The old town of L'Escala is characterized by narrow streets, with shops, bars and cafes, which always draws a very nice atmosphere. At the same time we need to emphasize the promenade of Riells, the fishermens harbor and the marina and sports.
In the old town of L'Escala there is a daily market of fruit and vegetables, and on Sunday's, there is the large weekly market at the seafront. The center of L'Escala and Riells area is characterized by numerous shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, pubs and clubs are an important part of the history of L'Escala. These includes the celebration of the «Fiesta del Carmen», the «Fiesta of the Anchovy», summer concerts, the spectacle of the Roman Triumvirate, the folk dance called: Sardana and the feast of the giants.
There are three beaches: the central beach of Riells, the fascinating Cala Montgó (also known as «diving paradise»), and the long beach of Empúries. This beach is composed of five small coves and leads to the next town called: Sant Pere Pescador.

L'Escala has a very pleasant climate, with warm temperatures until autumn. We'd like also to mention the wind called «Tramuntana», which comes from the north, and it appears almost unexpectedly for a few days, leaving behind a clear blue sky.

The gastronomy of L'Escala is not only known for its «Anchovies» and the diversity of fish in the Mediterranean, but is also known for very good restaurants, which together with the typical tourist menus prepares some delicious dishes of paella, fideuà andother Catalan specialties.
Only 2 km from L'Escala you´ll find the Greco-Roman ruins of Sant Martí d'Empúries, which in 1992 welcomed the Olympic flame. It is also worth to visit the town of Figueras, with his famous Museum of Salvador Dali, the painters private house in Port Lligat, or the Gothic Quarter and the cathedral in the city of Girona. Or the beautiful village of Cadaquès, with his special atmosphere, among many other pleasant destinations.

In our region you can practice all kinds of sports, as diving, sailing, fishing, boat trips, horse riding, tennis, biking or skydiving (in Empuriabrava at about 20 KM from L'Escala). While golf lovers can spend a pleasant day in one of the following fields: in Pals (about 20 Km from L'Escala) or Peralada (about 30 Km).
